Latinas are no longer just a part of the conversation in digital media—they are in the spotlight and owning it. The rise of Latina creators on digital platforms like Instagram and TikTok is more than just growth, it is a movement. By connecting with their audience with confidence and personability, they are transforming online spaces and breaking barriers in media, one post at a time.

A New Latina Content Creator on the Rise in Miami

Meet Mimi Alas, just one of the Latina influencers leading this revolution. Since her childhood days in El Salvador, where she filmed her own “talk show” on a Nokia phone, Mimi always knew she wanted to create content. She was captivated by blogs in the early 2000s but noticed that this space was predominantly filled by women who were white, tall, and American, a representation that didn’t reflect her own identity or experiences. Instead of waiting for someone else to make room for her, Mimi took matters into her own hands.

In 2022, she moved from El Salvador to Miami, FL, despite the challenges and risks, to pursue her dream of being on screen. "I risked all life savings to be here... I can't waste any time," she said.

From El Salvador to the U.S.: A Dream in Motion

Determined to become a Telemundo host, Mimi wasted no time. She immersed herself in networking, reaching out to anyone who could help her carve a path in the industry. Slowly but surely, doors began to open, but not in the way she expected.

Instead of traditional media, it was social media that offered the opportunities she’d been searching for. Realizing that digital platforms were where her talents and passions could truly come to life, Mimi made the bold decision to shift her focus. As she reflects on her journey, she firmly believes, "Everything happens for a reason.”

Carving a Space in Digital Media

Now, Mimi is using her success to pave the way for others, using her platform to elevate voices. She has interviewed Latin figures like Myke Towers, El Alfa, Gente De Zona, William Levy, Maffio, and Nio Garcia and describes these opportunities as big boosts to her career.  On the other hand, she creates beauty and lifestyle-oriented content on social media. "Although the brands that I work with are not Latina founded, they have been vocal about diversity. They want to show diversity, so I think the conversations are changing,” Mimi said when asked about challenges in the industry.

Breaking Barriers for Latino Voices

Mimi Alas’s journey is a powerful reflection of the growing movement of Latinos making their mark in the media industry. Her story highlights the importance of representation, particularly for the Latino community, in shaping the narratives and the voices that dominate digital spaces. For years, mainstream media has struggled with a lack of diverse representation, and as a result, many Latino stories have gone untold. But now, with the rise of content creators like Mimi, that is beginning to change.

Her success shows the role digital platforms play in giving underrepresented communities the chance to express themselves authentically. “I don't want people to think I am in the coolest place in Miami wearing Christian Louboutins; it’s just not my reality,” she says. It’s not just about creating content—it’s about breaking barriers and creating spaces where Latinos can tell their own stories, share their own experiences, and be seen for who they truly are.

The journey of Latinos in media reflects the strength and resilience we are known for. The hard work it takes to push through obstacles and make room for new voices serves as a reminder that true progress requires dedication, courage, and the willingness to risk everything for a chance at success. As more Latinos step into the spotlight, they are transforming not just the media industry but the way the world perceives them—and inspiring others to do the same. When asked what advice she would give to anyone looking to enter the industry, Mimi gave a simple answer - Toca la puerta.”
